Great article! Yes, that split really is draining. I let all that go a few years ago and never looked back.

Thank you, Ashley. Never looking back is such a blessing!

Super insightful! So much of life is lived unconsciously. We all have blind spots and automatic responses. How to become self-aware opens many doors to getting to know who you are.

Appreciate this, Larry. I’m often surprised by how much operates beneath awareness, and how bringing oneself back to simply noticing begins to shift things.

My gap is leaning too much on self awareness. Meaning, now that I'm a woman in her late 50s, I am more aware that I have aged i.e. gray hair, tiredness around the eyes etc. Some days I think to myself 'I could care less how people view me' other times not so much. Thanks for helping to shed light on the subject.

I think that most of us are hard-wired to be more critical of ourselves than is fair. But just the awareness of this changes everything. You're in a good place! :)

Good read, Rishi. You’re right.. the bigger the gap between the social version of yourself and the real one, the higher the risk of disconnection and losing your sense of self.

Two things that have helped me close that gap are 1) Meditation / reflection 2)Writing

Curious.. what has helped you close the gap?

Thanks for sharing your experience, Shalini.

What's helped me the most is a lifetime of self-inquiry, and realizing that the choices and beliefs I formerly called my own, were actually external conditioning. And from there, it became about making more conscious, self-aware choices. It's a continuous journey and lets me accept and honor my own truth. I am always amazed how things that I feel strongly about are always proven right... FOR ME.

Another thing that I try and do is give as little energy as possible to any bitterness towards people and systems that may influence me away from my inner guidance. Life has been mostly kind and loving to me, or that's how I choose to see it :)

Thanks for sharing this. It’s clear you’ve done the inner work to build awareness and live more aligned.. that’s powerful.

Thank you. It’s ongoing and imperfect, but I’ve learnt to stay with it.
